Final assignment for Visual Communication Term 1. I had so much trouble working on these. Probably one of the hardest times I've had in FZD, maybe even more so than learning the basics of curves. Due to having worked on it for insane amounts of time (planned to finish the heli by 12pm- by 12am it still wasn't done). That combined with seeing everyone complete their works before me, realising I had no time to prepare for the art test the next day (good thing it got cancelled) and not being able to sleep. Worked on this thru the night at cityhall starbucks, went home to take a shower at 4:30am and continued working on it. Extreme mental challenge. So glad it's over.

Now, gotta pack my bags for Iran tomorrow morning!

Finally done with design sketching (history of Wing Chun). This took me about 20 hours. Been sleeping so little the past few weeks, it's quite ridiculous how I'm surviving this. No time to write anymore. Got Guardians of the Galaxy to catch later, followed by more insects for viscomm and digital painting. Missed out on NDP fireworks yesterday. Haven't had beer since school started. Gym no longer priority now, all effort goes into school work. Took me a month and a half to switch gears.

So week 2 of FZD is over. That was FAST. Just flew by like that. And waiting till the weekend to watch a tv show that came out on Monday is crazy. Still have handwriting and digital painting assignments to complete by this weekend. Must complete everything by the weekend. Piling up homework till the next week is a big no no.

Quite afraid about learning zbrush with Mr. K though. From what I heard, it's really quite difficult to understand him when he teaches zbrush the same way he teaches Digital Painting. Not too worried about perspective with Mr. T. He's quite a good teacher, and Robert came in with no perspective background, but he's doing quite well now, so that must say something about Mr. T's classes.

Some homework from the two weeks in this school.

Last doodle before school starts. Won't have anymore time for this anymore. Let's see how much I can improve within one year!

3-4 hours on my new Mac and photoshop cs6. No lag ftw!

Wednesday, 11 June 2014

Wow almost a month of no art. No thanks to my procrastinating ass. Well partly also due to me meeting up with my classmates quite a number of times the past month.

Orientation starts tomorrow and I can't wait! Super excited. So far the 18 or so classmates I've met are quite alright, can't wait to meet the rest :)

Dr Sketchy with the my future classmates. This one lasted till just before 11pm. Front row seats, bottom-up perspective, pretty difficult, but fun :)

Now that the M.S work for Bca is done, it's back to more learning. Only a month left till school starts! Just paid 20k yesterday. Whew.

So many lines urgh. I wonder how the school is gonna help me streamline it.

Haven't posted a while due to work (another bca poster) and finishing up my entry for the Godzilla competition.
Top: My initial idea was to have three soldiers running towards the camera, but I got lazy. I still like it though, even if it isn't as detailed.

I think I'm going to go with Cheryl's suggestion of taking away the windows and pulling focus onto the main subject. Man this is taking so much longer than expected. I don't get how pros can get it done within an hour.

More 47 Ronin studies. Middle one is a wip for the Godzilla contest I'm participating in.

Sunday, 20 April 2014

Forgot how to do it in just one day. Gonna do it again tomorrow.
 47 Ronin ref practice
Application of what I learnt. Can't beat the study :/

Saturday, 19 April 2014

This spiral stairs seemed pretty straight forward at first... Couldn't have been more wrong. Gonna do this again.
Practice from 47 Ronin. This movie has some great visuals, gonna be doing a lot of practice off them.

Used to have so much trouble with these. Getting the hang of it, but some things still bother me. Some parts don't add up.

Thanks to the book 'How to Draw' by Scott Robertson for the techniques! It's super helpful, even though it takes up so much brain juice for my head to wrap around the concepts.

And more snow. I wonder why water looks so dark in these environments. According to the colour and light book by James Gurney, it isn't actually darker, it's the contrast between the water and snow that make it seem darker. Looks darker to me though. Gotta do more studies.

Snow, snow and more snow! I love painting snow, gotta do a ton more before I get the hang of it. References from dailyventure site.

So it's a little less than two months before school at fzd starts, and I think it's a good idea to chronicle my daily practices up till that time.

Three main areas of self improvement:

- Perspective fundamentals
- Environment painting
- Straight lines and eclipses (sketchbook + pen)
